Q: We normally begin by asking you briefly about your background, like what’s your name, where you went to school, what you do, and then we’ll just pick it up from there.
Well, I am Dean, originally from China and now residing in the United States since the early 2010s. I attended Purdue University in Indiana, where I earned a degree in computer science. After that, I pursued a master’s degree at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, in the School of Computer Science. I then moved to California and worked as a software engineer, tech lead, engineering manager, and head of engineering at big tech companies like Yahoo! Inc. and Apple, Inc.. After about a decade in the industry, I took a mid-career break to attend MIT Sloan School of Management, where I recently finished an MBA degree in engineering & management.
Q: Great start! Can you tell us a bit about your career goals and something you’re passionate about?
My career goal is to provide brilliant software and internet services that benefit people. I am passionate about creative thinking, transforming ideas into reality, delivering solutions for challenging problems, and making a significant impact. My interests lie in FinTech, Crypto, and AI. I’m looking for something small but exciting to build the next unicorn.
Q: What do you usually do besides work?
I enjoy hiking and traveling. I’ve crossed the U.S. from the east coast to the west coast twice—once by Amtrak and once by road trip. I’m planning a third crossing, this time by flying, but I need to become a pilot first.
